Urban Outfitter's Artist Editions 2016 — selected work from the S. Bradley Askew archive.
The thinking behind
the finished work.
Translate an independent graphic practice into a retail capsule without sanding away the irregularities that made it recognizable.
The most ownable system was already present in the archive: repetition, distortion, color collision and an appetite for visual noise.
Treat each garment as a moving edition—part poster, part artifact and part portable exhibition.
A modular graphic language moved across tees, sweats, printed matter, product photography and the Urban Outfitters retail environment.
The collection carried a personal image language into a national retail context while keeping its handmade edge intact.
